This is a summary of my whole week.
This style of vlogging is very different to my normal less regular video and I’m still getting used to talking to the camera! I think once I get better at this it might even be useful and informative…!
I’ll still be doing an ‘epic edit’ every now and then, but with some of these scattered in between to answer questions, give training ideas & show people what I get up to, although this one got out of hand and is a way too long.
Get over to YouTube and subscribe to me, then follow me on Twitter & Instagram and you’ll be virtually following me around, feel free to ask me questions, but only the good ones get answered!
Thanks again to everyone who’s purchased stickers and t-shirts from my online store recently, it helps me so much. I’ve got another design coming out soon that will be printed on a vest & tee.
This whole video was shot on a GoPro® HD HERO™ Camera camera, if you’re thinking about buying one please click through on the add below. :)
Vlog Episode 2 - Cape Town 2013
I know, this is only 1 video in about 5 months and I said I’d do one every month. But if I’d done that in Cape Town I wouldn’t have been able to do much else with my time (like coaching and surfing!) and all the videos would’ve looked very much the same!
BUT I’m going to be doing some shorter videos soon, ones that don’t take 4-5 12 hour days to edit together. They’ll be slightly different but I’m hoping more personal and very much more frequent.
I’m also going back to YouTube to host them, Vimeo is great for portfolio stuff but YouTube is the place to build an audience. So click through to my YouTube channel and subscribe to me!
As always I mostly use my GoPro® HD camera for filming, it’s a great bit of kit. If you’re thinking about buying one, please click through the links on this post.
Thanks to all my supporters, you’re all amazing. Stay tuned!
I use a stiff shaft for flat water paddling and a soft shaft for surfski paddling. My blades are Jantex Gamma, I use Large Minus for flat water and Medium for surf ski…

I’ve always been a fan of keeping a training diary, but never been very good at it. I think I’ve found the perfect solution…

As I type this blog post I’m sitting in someone else’s home. I’ve been ‘house sitting’ for a friend for over a week now. This is the 5th residence I’ve lived in over the past four months in Cape Town*, to say I miss home is an understatement, but I’ll be sad to get on that plane in 48 hours from now. I love this city, I love this country.
I came here with three goals;
1. Continue my good run of flat water training
2. Spend as much time as possible with my girlfriend Nicole
3. Learn to surfski better

At 16 I was completing around 8 hours a week. I would train once a day with the odd extra run or gym thrown in. I trained 6 days a week with Fridays off, we raced almost every weekend…
